Materials and engineering for road owners, premix producers and contractors, from the initial site study to in-service monitoring.
Fibre Mastic Asphalt is intended for roads that carry heavy commercial traffic, are prone to early rutting, or require resurfacing more often than maintenance budgets allow.
It is a gap-graded mix with a high proportion of coarse aggregate. The aggregate forms a stone-on-stone skeleton that resists deformation, while a fibre-stabilised mastic holds it in place. The textured surface provides strong skid resistance and good surface drainage.
Fibre Mastic Asphalt is designed for a 7-year design life as a wearing course, against 3 years for a conventional asphalt concrete wearing course (ACW). On the Senai-Desaru Expressway (SDE) KM5.5 section, the FMA surface recorded 3.5 mm rutting and zero cracking after 3 years in service.

Designed to carry the heavier axle loads of commercial vehicles with less surface distress.
Longer resurfacing intervals and fewer repairs reduce the total cost of ownership.
A coarse, open texture maintains grip at all speeds and reduces the risk of aquaplaning.
Formulated for high pavement temperatures and intense rainfall.

For premix producers, consistency from batch to batch is essential. Novacel cellulose fibres are processed to specific micron sizes so that they perform predictably in the mixer: they absorb bitumen to prevent drain-down and form a uniform binder film around the aggregate.
Production is carried out under controlled conditions, from raw material selection through to external quality audit, and supply is planned around each client's production schedule.
| Product | Application | Function |
|---|---|---|
| NovacelPure | Fibre Mastic Asphalt | Forms a micro-mesh structure in the mix that increases durability, strength and service life. |
| NovacelPremium | Stone Mastic Asphalt | Holds the binder-rich mastic in place and prevents drain-down during production, haulage and laying. |
| NovacelPure+ | FMA+ for expressways | A high-performance variant of NovacelPure for expressway traffic loads and speeds. |
| Bitumen modifiers | Bitumen manufacturers | Cellulose modifiers for specialist and modified bitumen formulations. |
| Custom products | OEM and market-specific | Cellulose-based variants developed to a client's specification. |
Every pavement problem is different. Our engineers establish the root cause on site before designing the solution, then follow the road into service to confirm that it performs as designed.
Recording the condition of the subgrade and underlying structure, the profile of the damage, and traffic volumes and loads.
Measurement of material and structural properties to the test methods required by the specification, to build an accurate damage profile.
Analysis and modelling of the data to identify the cause and support a clear, defensible engineering decision.
Formulation of aggregate, binder and specialist additives into a mix design suited to the conditions of the site.
Monitoring of pavement performance after opening, giving the client documented evidence of how the road performs.
